MAP APP

By this time you should have at least heard of the MAP (Medical Assistant/Phlebotomy) Credential Application that Washington State requires of anyone that wants to work as a Medical Assistant or Phlebotomist in the state.

On the surface, it's kind of a "Catch 22." You need to be a phlebotomist in order to get the MAP credential and you need to have the MAP credential in order to be a phlebotomist...

However, if we delve down a little deeper, we discover that we can become a phlebotomist (by earning the RTC Certificate of Completion) and then applying for the credential.

Simone and I will help you through this process. You will submit your application (without the fee!) well before you finish the Phlebotomy Program at RTC. As you get closer to completing the program successfully we will submit more documentation so that you will be able to begin working as a phlebotomist shortly after completing the RTC Phlebotomy Program.

Simone has been following this matter closely and communicated with the Powers That Be in Olympia! (She has already gotten them to change the wording of the application and provide an exemption to phlebotomy students going to clinical externships for three weeks! (YAY!)).

Needless to say, she will be your best advocate when negotiating this credentialing issue, so keep in close contact with her about how it's done.
(We will publish updates to the blog whenever relevant...)
